I have collected a number of coverage area maps over the years for both BBC and ILR transmitters. The BBC maps are for most local radio stations and I also have a collection of maps for many of the BBC national VHF/FM radio transmitting stations. The ILR maps date from the late 1980's and are mostly taken from the 1987 IBA annual handbook. These maps will still provide a good idea of coverage provided by many of the of the original 'heritage' ILR services. Some ILR transmitters have had modest power increases and while this will give a slightly wider coverage area, the contours will not have changed significantly in many cases. I do not have maps for ILR stations from 1988 onwards, but I have been using a computer programme called RadioMobile which can provide remarkably accurate plots of a station's service area once you get to know the application's little foibles. I have included these plots here too. As time goes by I may produce some more. Maybe you have a transmitter in the UK that you would like a plot done for. If so let me know and I will see if I can produce one for you. The RadioMobile pixel plots show the 54dB uV/m (stereo) coverage area as the solid RED or GREEN area. Some of the maps are plotted out to 48 dB uV/m where some acceptable Mono reception should be possible. This would be shown as the yellow/orange or rainbow area. The index listing for local radio stations, below, is by area. The page will have a map for the BBC local station and any ILR services that I may have the appropriate map for. If I have done a RadioMobile pixel plot for a particular transmitter, then that will be included for the area too. The BBC national radio transmitter coverage maps are listed by name, so just click on the one that you want to see the map. |
