WENVOE
Wenvoe is the major transmitting station for South Wales.
Established originally by the BBC to transmit v.h.f. (405 line
monochrome) television to South Wales, The Valleys and the West of
England, the site is now operated by Crown Castle
International. 405 line, black and white, television from
Wenvoe, as elsewhere, was discontinued in the mid 1980's, but the
station is now home to a multitude of services including; u.h.f.
analogue 625 line colour television, u.h.f. digital terrestrial
television, v.h.f. / f.m. radio broadcasting and DAB digital audio
broadcasting. This mast is not the original, but a replacement
that was built in the early 1980's. It is 750 feet (225 meters)
tall.
