The
PALSTAR R30 Communications Receiver
Since
the unfortunate demise of the Lowe HF range of communications
receivers,
USA company Palstar have come to the rescue of short wave enthusiasts
with the nicely designed R30 receiver which offers high performance at
reasonable cost.

A
new communications receiver presented for the first time in Europe at
the 1999 HAM RADIO fair in Friedrichshafen, Germany was the R30 from the U.S. based company
Palstar Incorporated. At a price of US$550 it offers reception of AM
and
SSB signals in the frequency range 100 kHz to 30 MHz. It has a digital
frequency readout down to 100 Hz, an analog "S-Meter", 100 memories,
and
a claimed 3rd order intercept point of +18 dBm. Two bandwidths of 2.5
and 6 kHz are selectable and if you pay extra, Collins mechanical
filters can also be installed. It is also a compact receiver, making
the
R30 looks like another interesting choice for portable use, or for the
beginner looking for a cheap entry-level communications receiver.
Check
with the company for details on importers in Europe and elsewhere.
We
have not yet tested this porta-top receiver.

The R30 HF
shortwave receiver is a compact high performance radio capable of
receiving multimode signals in the 100Khz to 30 Mhz spectrum. It
provides excellent strong signal handling, high sensitivity and
dynamic range to eliminate annoying intermodulation interference.
The radio also features 100 programmable memories, variable rate
tuning and switchable bandwidths in all modes. The R30 receiver is also
equipped with a 10 AA cell internal battery pack that
automatically connects to the radio when the external adaptor plug is
disconnected allowing portable operation.

THIS IS THE ONLY RADIO WE SELL THAT IS MADE IN THE USA!

After surveying all the SWL receivers on the market,
Palstar President and chief engineer Paul Hrivnak and his design team
put their heads together to produce a SWL receiver that performs in a
real world setting with no overloading in the front end. Combining
their years of experience in designing and manufacturing amateur
radio equipment they came up with a small, portable unit that
performs like nothing you’ve heard. The R30 won’t disappoint you,
but don’t take our word for it. Here’s what an eHam.net reviewer
had to say, “I think this [R30] is one of those not too well known
jewels that is already a precious commodity to those who own one."
High quality basics, Small footprint and Portability.
The R30 HF shortwave receiver is a compact high performance radio

intermodulation interference. The radio also features 100

all modes. All this squeezed into a footprint that fits inside a sheet
of paper (8"x9"x2.5"). The R30 receiver is also equipped with a 10 "AA"
cell internal battery pack that automatically connects to the radio
when the external adapter plug is disconnected allowing portable
operation.
