After nearly a decade
on the air in greater London the leaflet entitled "THE A to Z OF
CAPITAL RADIO" provided a good idea as to who was on the air and what
the 'feel' of the station was. Capital Radio was possibly the
biggest ever 'community' radio station, it covered a population of
approximately 8 million people - over 4 million of which tuned into the
station - and was involved in all aspects of the lives of Londoners -
playing pop music of course, but also providing community action
programmes and helplines, sponsoring local orchestras and playing a
wide variety of music from classical to folk to jazz as well as news
and debates, phone ins and gardening features.
