NIAGARA FALLS
When we booked the holiday to Toronto and realised that we would be
able to visit Niagara Falls, something we all looked forward
to. I must admit that before we did some research on the
web I imagined that The Falls were located in a rather deserted part of
the countryside and also that they would be somewhat higher than they
actually are.
I actual fact they are now surrounded by a very built-up and
commercialised area, spawned, of course, by the magnetic attraction of
The Falls. There are two towns of Niagara Falls, the Canadian
Niagara Falls and, just across the river, the American town of Niagara
Falls. There are two main waterfalls, the most impressive of
which is the Horseshoe Falls which lie on Canadian territory. The
other falls are the America Falls, which are on American territory,
these are just as beautiful but a little smaller than the Canadian
Horseshoe Falls.
By far the best views of both waterfalls is to be seen from the
Canadian side of the river. There is a bridge that links the USA
and Canada at Niagara Falls, but to avoid customs controls the USA has
built a viewing platform part way across the river for United States
citizens to get a better view of The Falls.
